Christmas Star Quilt
Today I am sharing my new (and finally finished!) Christmas Star quilt. It has been in making for about a month and I am glad it's finally done and ready for Christmas. I am planning to do another two Christmas quilts so not so much time left now....
The quilt measures 60 x 60 in and is made out of 12 fat quarters - I used Little Joys by Elea Lutz for Penny Rose Fabrics.
I've wanted to make a star quilt for ages but just had to wait for the perfect time - Christmas! This simple saw-tooth star block is one of my favourite blocks and it is so simple and perfect for Christmas.
For my quilt I decided on 10in blocks. Out of my 12 fat quarters I managed to make 25 blocks - perfect for nice lap-size quilt.
Playing with the final layout.....
Yeah....here it is.
As this is a classic block quilt I needed some classic plain-coloured borders (and to make it little bit bigger, of course). I chose two off-white 2.5in borders with 1.5in red/white 'snow' strip between them (this one is my favourite Christmas fabric ever - from the current Pixie Noel collection by Tasha Noel).
The quilting was fun and quite fast...I free-motion quilted each star with 'back and forth style' lines and then I quilted each block in the ditch. This was very straightforward so it only took me couple of hours....yay, I am getting better and better with each quilt!!!
The whole quilt was a joy to make and will be gifted this Christmas.
